Boat update

My fat ass cat sat on my boat. The "ropes" holding up the masts are now all broken. It's still standing, but not quite as cool. so bummed.

In Limbo & Leeds finds

Jordan leaves this morning to head down to Montgomery for the dreaded bar exam. Because his outlines are on our laptop, that leaves me without the capability to post about Minneapolis with pictures (which are on the laptop and now deleted from my camera. So instead, I bring you my Bama "Antique" mall finds from yesterday's flea market/ yard sale adventures.

I only wish I had brought this home. It was in gorgeous condition, with a headboard to match. This picture doesnt do the color justice at all. Kimberly said this is one of restoration hardware's new fall colors. (she knows this stuff being in the furniture biz). At less than $300, it was a steal, but I dont carry that much cash on me, nor do I have the stomach to be frivolous on dressers at the moment. HOWEVER.

I did find this! Yes, that is a three foot long, foot and a half tall replica of a Spanish ship, and yes, it's as awesome as it sounds/looks. The picture above and frame were snagged at a yard sale yesterday morning for $1. The ship was $20. score. Here's how it looks in my living room. I also got two awesome wooden frames that will go on the wall to the left of this with some black and white Ireland prints from last summer's visit. This seems waaay overboard (pun intended) for a living room, but I like it. The more my living room looks like a museum, or a history professor's office, the happier I become.

Off to make some peach cobbler and dote on my dog.

Minnesooooota

Im flying out early tomorrow morning to Minneapolis, Minnesota. This will be a new state to check off my list, as it's my first visit. I wont have my puter, so no updating until I return. It's for work, so I prob wont be going to the Mall of America or the new Twin's stadium, but you never know what can happen! Catch yall Thursday.

30 Hot Night

Last night was my monthly ladies dinner with my 30 hot group. As a reminder, these are a group of ladies I randomly met at a Chris Hastings book signing at Southern Progress last October. We all ended up at the same table chatting, and had a great time. So, we decided to make a group of it. We call ourselves 30 hot because there is a 30 year age different between the youngest (me), and the oldest member of the group, and because we all love Hot & Hot. Age aside, these ladies are a riot! Last night we returned to Hot & Hot to experience the delightful summer Tomato Salad special.

Yes, i took a picture of my plate because it was so cute. However, if you dine there, dont mess with this dish. It's good, dont get my wrong, but it's difficult to eat. The way they cook this makes the meat very tough and heard to eat without going caveman on the dish and using your hands.

Mad Men Yourself

It's a great show. As you can see, when I Mad Men-ed myself, I went the rare female executive route in the middle of a marketing presentation to my male colleagues. After work, im going horseback riding, and of course I smoke with the best of them. Basically my mad men avatar is a 1960's bad ass feminist. Did we expect anything else?

Christmas Cactus

Little man did not have a good day. Neither did I, but who really cares. He woke us up later than usual and was begging to go out. Usually he just walks half asleep to the door. Well, he was not a well pup. After an hour of throwing up and not so good poops, we were at the vet. It turns out, the houseplant we didnt think was a big deal to chew on last night, really was a big deal. Dont let your animal eat Christmas Catus.

Well, the vet was our doggie day care today, and after an IV, puppy stomach coating, and an x-ray, we were cleared to take him home. Basically he had the equivalent of our food poisoning. we know a little something about that...He's doing much better now, laying on jordan fast asleep. Let's hope tomorrow is a better day, for both of us.

PC Meeting 2010

It's not very often that I get together with high school friends, but this past Friday, we made up for lost time. In the impromptu fashion know by the pc, we met at my house for dinner & vino. Carolyn made a picture montage of each of us at different parts of our childhood sporting bangs. Casey brought the boxed wine and Club Jarv* CD. I supplied the southern cooked meal, which turned into us eating mac n cheese all night...

I wish I had more pictures, but we had too much time hangin to remember to take more. I do have to note that while we were being very loud in the kitchen all night, Mac found a comfy spot on Kristy's purse, and slept the whole evening.

*When I was a freshman at Chelsea High school, our soccer team lost the state championship to john carroll (by like one goal). We wanted to have fun and not sit and be angry at this devastating loss, but we weren't old enough to go out. Instead, we turned my parent's basement into a dance club, and proceeded to replicate NYSNC's "bye bye bye" dance along with whatever else was popular on MTV at the time. This lasted hours, and it was epic. So, the next year (we happened to lose again) we brought it back. When most of us transitioned to Oak Mtn High, club jarv came with us.  It morphed into a "dress like a slut, and put on dance routines" by the time I was a senior. That was 13 years ago. We know that until at least 3 years ago, Club Jarv was still going strong by the girl's soccer team at OMHS. Maybe we need to make a guest judge appearance one day....

Kevin Alexander Husley

Our good friends Kevin and Ashley had their first child last week, a sweet boy they are calling Alex. We headed up to St. Vincents over the weekend to take a peek at the little bundle and hang with the proud parents.

July 4th recap

We had a wonderful time at my parents house on the 4th playing with all three of their grand-dogs. Mac and Riley played NONSTOP for about 5 hours. Needless to say, he is still sleeping. The pictures explain it all. ohhh so much puppy fun.

Alabama Wine

On a whim, Erin and I headed to Harpersville this afternoon to see what this Morgan Creek Vinyard was all about. Unfortunately, i left my camera at home, so pictures brought to you by google images.

We had a tasting in their lovely tasting room / wine making building. If you arnt aware, grapes wont grow very well in our high humidity Southern climate, so all of this wine is made of muscadine vines. This is a much sweeter fruit that grapes.

Some of their wines are more dry, but most are quite sweet. Almost too sweet. They do have some interesting flavors like a blueberry and a peach wine (made straight from Chilton Co. peaches). Overall, a very nice little 30 minute trip outside of bham. Honestly, we considered going to Alabama adventure for just goofy fun, but including parking its like $45 per person?!? You could go to six flags for cheaper than that, not cool. Now we have to check out the rest of the Alabama Wine Trail.

Historical Nerdness

Tuesday  I had to drive to Atlanta in the afternoon in order to already be there for an 8:00am meeting yesterday. Ive made this drive five times already this year, so i needed someone besides crappy alabama radio and crappy georgia radio to keep me sane. This time, I headed to the good ole North Shelby County Library to get some driving entertainment. Ive had a library card at this place since i was about eight. Apparently those expire. So one shiny new library card later, I was browsing the books on cd. Two books caught my fancy. The first, The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell.

This is a great, get you thinking type of book that one could relate to business or their personal life. J said it was required reading for his class at BSC and for law school. I told him that he should most definitely read it again, as you pick up on different themes when you are in a different stage of life. I had never read it before yesterday, and I certainly would not have "got it" in college. 

Then, I wanted a more fun , entertaining book. So of course I go with the 18 hour epic biography of Queen Victoria and Price Albert! (only me...& maybe bec) So far, im obsessed! I am a Tudor and Elizabethan geek by trade, so I havent put much time into the Georgian or Victorian era in England. Women had less rights, and  everyone was overall prudish, doest make for good fun. I did know that she was short, and they were one of the most "normal" royal couples in English history. I also knew from visiting that after he died, she placed huge monuments in London and Windsor, but that's about it. Im on chapter two, and honestly, it is very hard for me to get out of my car. Luckily im on hour 2 of 18. So much more Victorian fun to go!
