Sherlock

Im back! It has been a long week of prepping for this nightmare of an exam I take in a little less than a month. I feel a little more prepared, but we'll see...In the meantime, J has yet again found another gem of a show to add to our collection of midweek fun.

Folks, I give you Sherlock.  We have a British drama about a modern day Sherlock Holmes played by Benedict Cumberbatch (best british name ever, and also in The Other Boleyn Girl, Atonement, and Amazing Grace) and Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman from Love Actually, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and upcoming Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbitt) It is quite true to the original tales of Sherlock Holmes but incorporates modern date forensic technology. It's like you are watching a British Dexter with the writing of Aaron Sorkin. So it's quick, witty and did i mention British?. This all adds up to awesome. (cristin you will like)  The BBC has only released the first three 90 min episodes streaming on netflix. They also have three more episodes coming this fall.  Try it, let me know what you think.

In a few hours, im off to Cincinnatti, OH via Louisville, KY for 5 days. Why, you ask? Clearly, this is not by choice (I shoud be in Vegas this weekend via Minneapolis, MN but that's another story) My CFP exam is nearing it's end, and I am heading to a crash course in a hotel in Cincy for the whole weekend. AWESOME! (Totally living out The Paper Chase) Luckily, I have a coworker friend in Louisville who i am staying with tonight and sunday night, and we are communting to OH. (only an hours drive). Apparently you can get to Lousville for $79 round trip on southwest if you are lucky. So, I will be mia from blogging for a few days. I will check it at night to get my mind off of straddle puts, estate planning, and the income tax consequences of selling a stock option. I will be jealous of all of those at the beach, lake, or doing nothing at home. Im also sad to be missing my brother and sister in law's shower in Bham this weekend. Have a great time Zach and Liz! Have a few for me.

Exam: A Review

Last night we headed downtown to visit our friends Paul & Brooke. With him in law school and her in med school, they are certainly a busy couple. It was great to find the time to get together. We chowed down on Tazikis and took in the flick Exam. Of course J had already seen it (I think he stays up nights watching movies), but the rest of us were along for the ride. The movie had a neat premise. Eight people vying for one job at a prestigious company. They are put in a room, each with a sheet of paper and a pencil in front of them and given 80 minutes to answer the question. Important sidenote: there is nothing on the paper. So, the movie is really more about the psychological interactions of these people, and what they will do to find the answer to "the question." Although the idea of a crazy final job interview is quite plausible, it deviates from reality by introducing an international pandemic, healing bullets, and strange character development. Overall, pretty good flick. Not too heavy, but with a "twelve angry men" feel that I kind of like. Check it out.
