Masters of Misplacement

I do not like losing things. Who does really? My passport is still missing. Jordan and I tore up the house the past two nights try to find it. He swears the cats have taken it somewhere because they did that with his. Luckily, we found his in their hiding place in the back of our closet. Mine was not there though. So, with time running out until my trip, i went ahead and renewed my passport at the Vestavia post office. So, $200 later, it should be here in less than 2 weeks. I also found out during this mess that my original birth certificate has been lost. Luckily, my parents, being the awesome people they are, made certified copies of all of ours in 1988. Kudos Beck and Jerry.

While we're on the subject, Ive also misplaced my Masters Diploma. I dont know whats wrong with me. Since i'm going back to Dublin I figured that would be the perfect time to get a replacement diploma. Easier said than done. Apparently many Irish Universities have been having issues with people forging degrees in order to get a better job. So, not only will the replacement cost me $165, but will have the word DUPLICATE written on it in two places. OR, I can have a black and white copy in English (instead of Latin). So unnecessarily complicated. My mom and I are going to search the closets before I go, but I might just have to bite the bullet and get the duplicate. uuhhhhh

Caddy Skank

This is me golfing....HAHA. obviously kidding. Today I had my last group golf lesson for the summer, and instead of an actual lesson at the range, the plan was to play the first three holes of the Founders course. Jordan had gotten a new driver and it was still at the pro shop, so I grabbed that and headed off to the first tea box. My drive was BEAUTIFUL, and I attributed it much to the lessons and alot to the pimp club i was using. (Normally I use my mother in laws clubs that are great, but just a bit outdated, hence stealing jordan's). After this great shot I had a "golf high." Which of course meant my next 9 shots sucked (and yes, that was just the first hole). You see, golf is a rollercoaster of a game. One minute you are on top of the world b/c your game is amazing, and the next minute you want to quit. Unfortunately, the competitive bitch that I am wont let this get the better of me....I almost parred the second hole. In actuality, I double boogied it, but it was almost a par.

The problem with golf is that it is much too like my work. The constant ups and downs are similar and frustrating. Most people use golf as a stress reliever, but not me. Normally I'm out there stressed out and cursing like a sailor. So why do I play you ask? Well, not only is this a male dominated sport of business that I feel is essential that I learn, but it is also enormously challenging. So in my screwed up competitive mind, I enjoy it.

Needless to say, after two holes, we went in for drinks....I love golf.

Issues

I thought i was done with this show, but unfortunately i forgot about the "after the final rose ceremony." It was boring, but of course i watched it. Jillian and Ed are still happy. The other two are still bitter. Now I am officially done. No more wasting blog space.
In other news im having a bit of a crisis. For the past two and a half years I have been organized when it comes to my identification. Now, with t-minus one month until i go out of the country again, I have no idea where ive placed my passport. Up until a month ago it was in my special drawer in our buffet. However, now I have NO idea where it could be. I know ive "hidden" it from myself thinking, "this will be a good place to keep it safe." Well, it wasnt. So, i'm giving myself until tomorrow (in order to check the office) and then I will have to reapply. My passport expires in less than two years anyway, so its not awful. But, i leave in less than a month and it takes 2-3 weeks to get a passport, and that is when it is expedited. Also it costs an extra $100. Great. So, if anyone remembers where I have hid my passport, please inform me.

Also, why do people have 18 children? (too much TLC)

Nurse Carmella

The Mr. and I are huge Soprano fans. Great show. So, I was excited to hear that Edie Falco was back (albeit on showtime) in Nurse Jackie. In short, she's a head nurse, who is also a pill addict, and is having an affair with the hospital pharmacist. So, the show centers around her balancing her double life. One at home with her husband and kids, the other at the hospital with all the characters and stresses of work. She sounds like a horrible person by this description, but her main priority is making sure her patents get the best care possible; hence always doing "good deeds." Ive been watching Nurse Jackie now for about a month. It still has me watching, so it's interesting, but not compelling. Edie is definitely a fantastic actress, but I dont know how long the show will last.

Whats with his shorts?

In other news, the last episode of The Bachelorette was tonight Thank goodness. Im so sick of that show and all the melodrama associated. Luckily she did choose Ed, although the editing made it seem like she really wasnt that interested until the end. Reid will prob be the next Bachelor, but I WILL NOT be watching. I have to say goodbye to this show forever. Its just stupid. Sorry fans out there, I just cant deal with it. If I wanted to watch someone makeout with several guys during one night, I would go back to college frat parties. Its just not entertaining. But, I hope they get married, have lots of babies, and live happily ever after. Bah.

And we're back...

Finally, after what seemed like a year, but was really more like a week, our laptop is back in action. One new hard drive later, and our year old laptop, is once again, like new. Except for the fact that the backlight is now going on and off as i'm typing. That might have something to do with the fact that Jordan didnt want to wait for the dell guy to come install the hard drive, but instead, do it himself. Why do guys think they can fix everything? They cant. No one is an functional expert in everything. Although he seemed to have done it correctly, who knows? The light thing is now getting annoying.

In my blogging absence fun things have happened. Last weekend was a girls trip to reba's lake house, and the running of my 5k! The lake was great, the 5k was not as fun, but I did it. It was the first 5k ive ran since cross country in high school. College soccer doesnt count because the longest we ever ran constantly was really 2 miles. It was more quick start and stopping. My first mile was under 10 minutes (great for me at this stage in my return to running). The next two I averaged 10 minutes per. Results:
 20 Jeris Burns 287 30:25
I CAME IN 20th!!! (out of 46!) (in the 25-29 age group) Normal competitive people would be upset by this, but honestly, i'm glad I didnt finish last. Plus the girl in front of me only beat me by 1 second. I could have broken the top 20 in my age group easy, but maybe next time. The #287 was my overall score out of around 500 people. How awesome is that? What is not awesome is that in the rankings, a 61 year old woman beat me by 2 minutes. We arnt going to talk about that...

The next 5k (yes, there will be more) is August 15th at Greystone. My goal: to beat my time...and maybe all women in their 60's.

Here are a few of my favorite things...

After an amazing Bikram Yoga class with Cristin this morning, I have found myself on the sofa for the past 3 hours, watching NYC Prep and surfing the net. Weekends are times to not use one's brain, hence Bravo reruns and internet boredom. So, ive decided to post some of my findings today on google images. Here are some of my favorite things:

WASABI PEAS! I saw these the other day at fresh market, and fell in love with them all over again. Hot and delicious.

Plain and simple, I cant function day to day without this item.

This show is the reason we switched from HBO to Showtime for the summer. Who knew I would like a show about pot. I also think Mary-Louis Parker is a genius.

Many of you know of my obsession with pottery. Well it all started during a visit to Dingle, Ireland, while on a roadtrip, when I stumbled upon the Louis Mulcahy's studio. While watching these beautiful pieces being made, I fell in love. Every trip over I get another piece for my collection. Right now I have a teapot, one cup (like the one's above) and milk and sugar saucers. One day I hope to have a complete set...that's alot of trips back to Ireland!

Pugs. It's cruel that I dont have one yet. Next goal: house, then pug. Almost there.

The Lime Cactus

This is not your mother's Corona, or your sister's Bud light lime. This is the Lime Cactus. A fun & fruity drink I found at the local Chevron. Its nothing special, and its not even that great, but it makes me smile. I can just imagine some important people sitting around a large boardroom having their marketing staff pitch them new drink names. Whatever the other options, somehow lime cactus won. I wonder how bad those other names were. But, someone recognized the genius of this name right away, and ran with it. Lime Cactus, i love it. Plus, after the second drink, it really doesnt taste that bad.

My special cat

Around 10:00 on most nights, my cat Spencer get a little crazy. Usually he chases himself around the house while meowing, chases his tail in circles, or just tries to mess with Ellie. Tonight as Ellie and I were quietly watching tv, Spencer was going ape shit behind us with the window. Hence the video. As you can see, ellie is not at all impressed by spencer's actions. After this video, I put the shades up, and realized he was seeing moths fly around outside window. Spencer took a break for a few minutes, and then went right back to his mission. Special boy.

What a find.

Found on a jeep during my trip to SanDestin. Luckily, my camera was ready.

Let's Recap

I haven't been in a huge posting mood lately, but i'm here at Greystone early on the Fourth of July, waiting for my Ipod to charge so I can go for a run, so I guess i'll recap whats been goin on. Last weekend I went on a girls trip with my mom and sisters down to SanDestin and the Baytown Wharf area. I actually have a few others pics to share from this, but I left the connector thing for my camera at home, so i'll show those later. It was nice to get away from Bham and spend some time laying out and shopping. Upon my return it was hard to get back into the swing of life (as it always is after a vaca) so work this week was slow and uneventful, and really rather annoying. In my business summer is slow because no one really wants to talk about their finances when they could be beach or poolside with a drink in hand. Me included. That will pick up after a while, but until then, we soldier on.

Yesterday, on a lovely day off, I took an "ultimate energy" class with my mom at St. Vincents 119 (otherwise known to me and my sisters as the "workout meca" bc it is an unbelievable facility) The class kicked my ass, lets me honest, i'm nowhere near in shape. I realized, while i was huffing using a 8lb weight during intervals, that it has been nearly 5 years since I have put on soccer cleats and been fit. So, as grown women were out crunching me, I decided that I must try to regain my past healthy self. This is a realization I come to about once a week, so maybe this time it will stick...

Post workout we hit the pool where i started reading the book I hope they serve beer in hell. Thanks Cristin, once again you come through. What a gem, but so wrong on so many levels at the same time. Unless you have a high tolerance for crude language and easily offensive stories, dont even give it a thought. But if you are ok with that, then it will make you laugh out loud. I also soon realize it has a following...

Post poolside, I continued my day of leisure by reading this piece of literature, if we can call it that, on the greystone porch, enjoying a diet coke, and waiting for Jordan to get there so we could hit the driving range (I know, dont even say it). As, as i'm laughing out loud by myself, a golfer comes up to me and says he couldnt help but notice my laughter and what I was reading. For a split second, I was completely mortified, because this book is THAT crude, and I was pretty embarrassed to be caught reading it. Luckily, he continued by exclaiming that it was the "best damn book he has read in a while" and I think was thoroughly excited to ask what part I was reading, and to tell me that he read it for the first time in an airport and got really bad looks from most of the people around him. After that everyone on the patio wanted to know what book he was talking about, and what the deal was with the book. Oh god. So, ive decided no more reading Tucker Max in public, it just draws too much unecessary attention. On a side note, I just realized they are making a movie out of it, and it comes out Sept. 25th of this year. Wow.

Ok, so post book trauma, the day was great, nice weather, not bad golfing, and I increased my base tan. Bring on Fourth of July!
